Week 3 of the 3D Hoops Summer League took place Wednesday night with a lot of exciting basketball action. Featured below is a recap of all you need to know about last night’s summer league action!
4 on 4 Game of the Night: Starting at 6:00 on Wednesday we had a phenomenal match up between the Grey and White teams. Coach McPhail’s White team was put to another test last night when they faced an undermanned Grey team. Having to play 3 on 3 instead of 4 on 4 did not slow down either team where both exploded for a great 26-24 game with the White team winning the game on a last second buzzer beater! During the first half Jonah Buriss and Cavanaugh Brasington went shot for shot with Houston Jones and Isaiah Boyd with both teams being tied at 12 at halftime. To start the second half Luke Swearingen hit a deep 2, but Ryan Smoak immediately answered with a full court drive to the hoop. But the last second heroics to win the game came from Jonah Buriss who drove to the basket and scored just before the buzzer sounded.
7:00- Orange vs. Blue: To start the 5 on 5 games for the night we had two of the top teams going at it. In the first half we did not have that much offense with the halftime score being 13-6 in favor of the Orange team, but that sure did change once we started the 3rd quarter. To start the third quarter Max Holland of the Orange Team hit a deep three, but Jalen Williams hit a three of his own to answer and stop the Orange Teams momentum. With the Orange team up late the Blue Team started raining three’s from Jalen Williams, Reece Fields, and Jordan Gilden. But that was not enough to hold off Evan Eckstrom who scored 7 points late in the 4th quarter to secure the Orange Team’s victory 37-30.
8:00- Grey vs. White: The second 5 on 5 game was the best game we have had all season. Early on we had a lot of scoring from Justin Myers, Jonathan Corley, and Will Edwards of the White team for a combined total of 14 points. That early explosion really put the Grey team in a hole going into halftime. To start the third quarter Cal Stevenson and Andrew Robinson of the Grey team led the offensive attack and brought the Grey to make this an exciting game. But with an strong second half offensive attack of Jonathan Corley, Mason Carver, and Will Teeter ended up being too much for the Grey team even with a late offensive explosion from Dylan Little with the White team winning 31-30.
